The OIE Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific (OIE Asia-Pacific)

History & Structure
| 1971: |
an ‘OIE Regional Bureau in Asia’, predecessor of the current OIE Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific (OIE Asia-Pacific), was set up in Tokyo through the efforts of its first Director Dr U. Tanaka, who was succeeded by Dr M. Ogata. The Office published an occasional regional animal health bulletin until 1981. |
| 1990: |
the OIE International Committee decided to reinforce the OIE Regional Bureau. Through enhanced financial contribution from the government of Japan, the Bureau expanded its means of action for better coordination of activities in the region. At the end of 1991, Dr Y. Ozawa was appointed as the OIE Representative for Asia and the Pacific based in Tokyo and in 1992 the ‘OIE/Japan Programme to Improve Animal Health Information System in Asia and the Pacific’ was set up in Aoyama, Tokyo. |
| 2000: |
Dr T. Fujita succeeded Dr Y. Ozawa as the Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific. |
| 2004: |
the FAO and the OIE launched the Global Framework for the Progressive Control of Transboundary Animal Diseases (GF-TADs) initiative; OIE Asia-Pacific was chosen as the location for the Permanent Secretariat of the Regional GF-TADs Steering Committee. |
| 2006: |
the OIE Asia-Pacific office moved to more spacious quarters located in Kojimachi, Tokyo, reflecting its expanding activities and increased staff. |
| January 2010: |
Dr I. Shimohira succeeded Dr T. Fujita as the Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific. |
